Here are a few of examples of the BWHT in the news.
Trail board members at International Women’s Day Event
On March 8, 2006, Board President Sylvia McDowell, along with other BWHT board members and representatives from over 40 supporting organizations, attended the annual International Women’s Day event at Simmons College. This year’s theme was Shifting the Paradigm: Paths to Women’s Political Leadership in the United States.
Brandeis professor Dr. Dessima Williams, a women’s rights activist who attended the last U.N. Conference on Women in Beijing, presented an international perspective on women’s political leadership before introducing Charlotte Golar Richie, who moderated the panel discussion. Panelists Representative Lida Harkins, Representative Mary Rogeness and Representative Linda Dorcena Forry shared their respective paths to elected office in Massachusetts. They frankly discussed the barriers women face and their own strategies for success.
If you have an interest in women’s role in politics, please join BWHT Board member Sue Goganian of the Bostonian Society, for a lively seminar focusing on women in political life. The event takes place on Saturday, September 23, 2006 at the Old State House Museum and features noted women authors who have chronicled women’s political participation. The Patriot Ledger
BOSTON -
The History Channel will award one of 29 "Save Our History" grants of $10,000 to the Boston Women's Heritage Trail in partnership with the
Codman Academy Charter School.

"The grants not only enable communities to maintain the fabric of their local history, but the collaboration between the school and the historic organizations brings communities together and the interaction between generations will hopefully inspire young people to continue their historic preservation efforts," said Dan Davids, president of the History Channel - USA.
The organizations will use the money to set up a course and walking trail honoring women's history at the Dorchester school.
"
Save Our History" is a national and grassroots campaign dedicated to historical awareness and preservation.
Thirty students in grades 9 through 12 will take the 12-week Saturday class at the charter school. The class includes four field trips to several historic sites in Dorchester.
The class will focus on the often forgotten women who played, and continue to play, key roles in the creation and development of the community.
The students' research during the class will be used to develop the first Dorchester Women's History Trail, similar to the Freedom Trail. It will map historical sites of interest that can be visited on foot.
Boston Women's Heritage Trail and students will work with a graphic designer to create 1,000 brochures, including a map and historic highlights. They also will hire a professional evaluator to create a model based on this project for similar courses across the country.
