Anne Hutchinson (1591-1643) held women’s prayer meetings in her home here in the 1630s. The site later became the Old Corner Bookstore, housing the publishing firm of Ticknor and Fields.
Amy Lowell (1874-1925), the first woman on the Boston Athenæum Board of Directors, led a protest to save the building in 1903 and was influential in the Imagism poetry movement.
Annie Adams Fields (1834-1915) hosted an influential literary salon at her family home on Charles Street. She supported many women writers and engaged in significant charitable work.
