Eva Whiting White

Eva Whiting White (ca. 1885-1974), the first woman to graduate from the Boston School for Social Work, expanded the Elizabeth Peabody Settlement House’s classes to include woodworking, radio broadcasting, debate, and dramatics. 

She also added a professional theater where Leonard Nimoy and Ruth Roman began acting. White served as Dean of Simmons College School of Social Work.

Built in 1929 and funded by James Storrow’s family, the West End Boys Club housed libraries, club rooms, a gym, and basketball courts. Now it is offices for Mass General Hospital.
