For over 150 years, 133 Black women lay buried at Cedar Grove Cemetery, hidden in plain view, their names absent and their stories untold until now. The women were former residents of the Home for Aged Colored Women on Beacon Hill, interred at Cedar Grove Cemetery between 1873 and 1941 in two communal graves without their names and largely forgotten until now.

The ceremony will begin at the Gilman Chapel in the cemetery with a performance of an original poem by Porsha Olayiwola, followed by a procession to the two burial sites for the unveiling of a temporary memorial designed by artist Ekua Holmes.
This event is FREE and open to the public.
