“Family Circle” by Fern Cunningham

Fern Cunningham (1949–2020), a sculptor and teacher, created Family Circle here in Elm Hill Park, along with other works like Step on Board and Rise.

Fern Cunningham (1949-2020) was an American sculptor. She was born in New York City, grew up in Alaska and upstate New York, and graduated from Boston University. She taught art at the Elma Lewis School of Fine Arts and at the Park School in Brookline. Besides her sculpture, Family Circle, here in Elm Hill Park, Cunningham has many bronze sculptures throughout Boston. These include Step on Board, a tribute to Harriet Tubman in the South End; Rise, a monument at the Mattapan entrance to Boston; The Sentinel in Forest Hills Cemetery.
