Smith, a distinguished sculptor, made significant contributions to the art community as an instructor at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston from 1940 to 1953 and also taught at Bradford Junior College in Haverhill, Massachusetts. She lived in Charlestown, Massachusetts. Smith’s education included a degree from Wellesley College (A.B.), a traveling fellowship from the Belgian-American Education Foundation, and studies at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts Boston under Frederick Warren Allen. She also received a Sturdivant Traveling Fellowship to Mexico in 1941. Smith served five terms as president of the New England Sculptors’ Association and was an active member of the National Sculpture Society. Her work and leadership helped shape the landscape of American sculpture in the mid-20th century, earning her a prominent place in the art world.
