Mary Chilton Winslow

Spring Lane, the oldest street in Boston, marks the site of Mary Chilton Winslow’s (d.1679) home. A plaque commemorates the Mayflower passenger and first European woman to step ashore.

A plaque in Spring Lane marks the site of the house of Mary Chilton Winslow (d.1679), a Mayflower passenger in 1620. Chilton, arriving on the Mayflower in Plymouth at age 13, was purportedly the first European woman to step ashore. She and her husband, John Winslow, had ten children, and moved to Boston around 1653.
