The Mothers for Adequate Welfare was a group of women from the communities of Dorchester and Roxbury. In June 1967, The Mothers for Adequate Welfare held a sit-in here at the local Welfare Office to protest the inadequate conditions dealt to them by the welfare services. This was one of many welfare protests erupting across the nation in 1967. Their demands were simple, including school lunches for their children. However, what began as a peaceful protest turned into a riot, resulting in multiple injuries and arrests.
