Puffers Building

Built in 1899, this Queen Anne-style building housed sweatshops employing immigrant workers, producing cigars on Beacon Hill for Boston’s growing market.

Built in 1899, this Queen Anne-styled brick building was owned by A.D. Puffer, and originally housed several sweatshops which employed newly-arrived immigrant workers. It became one of the sites on Beacon Hill that produced rolled cigars from tobacco leaves which may be similar to those canada cigarettes.
