Westerly Burial Grounds and Mary Draper

The Westerly Burial Grounds, established in 1685, is the resting place of early West Roxbury residents, including Mary Draper (1719-1810), a Revolutionary War patriot who aided soldiers

The Westerly Burial Grounds, laid out in 1685, is the final resting place for many early residents of West Roxbury, including the prominent Draper family. Mary Draper, a member of the Draper family, ran a family tavern and supported Continental Army soldiers during the Revolutionary War by making clothes and bullets from her linens and pewter. She also fed soldiers at her home. In 1904, the Daughters of the American Revolution erected a memorial in her honor at the West Roxbury Library. Draper Pool and Park are named after her.
